BUCKIE Ladies came roaring back to winning ways on Sunday when they hit visitors Nairn County for six.

The high winds at Merson Park proved to be no distraction for the hosts as they shook off their recent 8-1 defeat to Clach in their latest pre-season friendly.

Gemma Geddes tapped in from a Steph Greenlees corner to give Buckie the lead before Rebecca McMillian doubled the advantage before half-time.

Facing the wind in the second half Buckie had to dig deep, keeping the ball on the deck and sticking to their passing game.

It was to pay dividends with McMillan adding to her tally before Geddes – described as “outstanding” throughout the match by skipper Laura Duncan –completed her double.

Young gun Regan Duncan, who has joined the Buckie first team squad at the tender age of 14, helped herself to a brace, her first an absolute peach of an effort.

There was also a new face in goal, with Dana Hahmann sharing custodial duties between the sticks with regular keeper Bex Bellamy.

It was a special match for Buckie Ladies as their thoughts went out to manager Mel Smith, who was recovering from surgery in Edinburgh.

However, she was able to send a message of praise from her hospital bed, stating that the result had “made my day”.

Replacing Smith in the dugout for the friendly against Nairn was Matthew McMillan.

Buckie Ladies are due to open their second league campaign in the SWFL Highlands and Islands League at Merson Park against Orcadians Kirkwall City on Sunday, March 15 at Merson Park, kick-off 2pm. Follow the club Facebook page for match updates and other news.
