Buckie girls hailed for year of hard work

HARD work brought its own reward for the youngsters at Buckie Girls FC when they celebrated their wards evening.

Victoria Park function hall played host to the event which saw trophies handed out the under-11 and under-13 levels.

It has been an exciting end to the year for all at the club after they moved from their previous berth as part of Buckie Thistle's development programme to that of Buckie Ladies FC.

Looking back on the year, Buckie Ladies manager Mel Smith, who also chairs the girls development section, said: "It's been a very successful year for girls' football in Buckie.

"We have nearly 60 girls at training every Monday night aged from P1 to S3.

"The under-13s had a brilliant year, finishing mid-table in the North Division League and we started an under-11s team, playing in festivals held in Inverness.

"Our development is on the rise with very talented players with the potential for a 16s future team leading on into the Buckie Ladies first team.

"Thank you to all the girls, parents and coaches for all your input throughout the year, as well as to Zoe Geddes' family and for presenting the awards."

The awards presented were:

Under-11s: Top goal scorer –Violet Clarke; Most improved player – Keira Guthrie; Coaches' player – Amelie Hutcheson; David 'Parro' Findlay Memorial Shield – Eloise Grant.

Under-13s: Top goal scorer – Milly Findlay; Most improved – Kelsi Duncan; Coaches' player – Milly Findlay; Players' player – Kelsi Duncan; Zoe Geddes Memorial Shield – Regan Duncan.
