The Premier Sports Cup draw has paired Buckie Thistle with a tie against former Highland League rivals Ross County.
And Elgin City take on Premiership survivors St Johnstone, who once had City boss Gavin Price and coach Jim Weir on their books.
Wednesday's draw also included Highland League winners Fraserburgh who ended up in a group with Kilmarnock, Partick Thistle, Montrose and Stenhousemuir.
Buckie have an all-north tie with Ross County, who finished sixth in the Premiership last season so are the highest placed team in the group stages.
Jags will also meet relegated Fife pair Dunfermline Athletic and East Fife as well as Alloa Athletic.
Elgin's group also includes Ayr United, who survived the drop from the Championship, Queen of the South who dropped down to League 1, and League 2 rivals Annan Athletic who just missed out on promotion in the play-offs.
Both Moray clubs will discover in the next week which two matches they will play at home and which two are on the road.
