Elgin City manager Allan Hale praises makeshift team’s William Hill League 2 victory over Peterhead and 1356 Borough Briggs attendance

Elgin City manager Allan Hale would love to see more bumper Borough Briggs crowds like the one that roared their team to derby victory on Saturday.

City defeated Peterhead 2-0 to return to the top of League 2, watched by their biggest home attendance in league football for many years.

The 1356 gate was double Elgin’s Christmas crowd to face Peterhead a year ago, and Hale knows if his team keeps challenging at the top of the division, the fans will follow.

He said in his post-match interview that he was pleased that a makeshift City defence could shut out a good Peterhead team.

And he praised the turnout for the match, saying: “Hopefully this type of crowd can be a regular thing here at Borough Briggs.

“When Borough Briggs gets behind the team it can create a difficult atmosphere.

“We gave the supporters something to get behind and they certainly did that.”
