A sure sign that summer is on its way is when Ellon Athletics Club and Peterhead Athletics Club put winter rivalry aside to make one team for the North Of Scotland RAM Track And Field League.

Last Sunday saw the first of the meetings and the joint team, under the management of Nicola McDonald, sent a strong team from nine year old up to senior teams into battle.

Despite many of the squad making their debut to the events they were competing in, and against much more experienced athletes from larger clubs like Aberdeen, Dundee and Montrose, every athlete came away with points for the team or a personal best performance or both.

Team captain Nicola McDonald said: “I couldn’t be more proud of each and every athlete and their supporting families.

“The Ellon/Peterhead union is always hard working, supportive and very very loud, everyone of our athletes put their heart and soul into their events today and watching seniors encouraging the wee ones, then hearing our younger athletes shouting on our more experienced athletes is a great way to spend a Sunday at the track, roll on round two in June.

"There were too many excellent performances to single out but a special mention must be made to all those who made their track and field debut, you did your clubs very proud!"

Athletes from both clubs worked hard.
