Huntly sign former Formartine United midfielder Callum Youngson from North Region Junior champions Culter
A star at the north junior football champions has returned to the Highland League ranks.
Huntly have completed the signing of attacking midfielder Callum Youngson from Culter on a three-year deal.
The 26-year-old had a spell at Formartine United, who he joined from Hermes juniors, before being loaned out to Culter - who went on to win the North Region Premier Division.
Youngson is manager Colin Charlesworth’s second major summer signing following the capture of goalkeeper Lenny Wilson from Brechin City.
The Huntly boss said on his club’s website that he had been pursuing Youngson’s transfer for some time.
“I made a play for him when I initially got the job but proved too late at that time,” he revealed. “The way things have worked out since then we knew he was someone who we wanted to take in this summer.
“Callum has been one of, if not the best player in the juniors for a few years now and I feel the changing room and coaching staff we have here at Huntly we will really see him help push us back up the league.
“A player with this quality always comes with stiff competition across the league and I am delighted he has seen Huntly as the right move for him. “
Charlesworth pointed to the midfielder’s impressive match stats during his time at Culter.
“With 23 goal contributions in six months and a league title at Culter shows he is a game changer and has that winning mentality that we want to install throughout our club.”
Youngson spent almost a decade in the junior ranks before joining Formartine last summer, and said he is delighted to be making the move to Huntly.
“Following a really good season with Culter where I’ve added things to my game, I’ve loved every minute and won trophies.
“I am really looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Highland League again with Huntly.
“They have a lot of quality throughout their squad and I’m excited to join that, show everyone what I’m capable of and be a big part of pushing us into contention for trophies again.”
