The Vattenfall windfarm community fund has opened for 2021.

The deadline for applications is April 12, 2021.

The Fund is provided by Vattenfall, who have committed to investing annually £150,000 to a community benefit scheme for the lifetime of the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC).

A local panel of community champions has been established to make decisions about the fund, with Foundation Scotland being appointed fund administrator.

The panel chairwoman, Dr Susan Osbeck, said:“The Fund has backed some very progressive and worthwhile projects over the last two years and I’m very pleased to be involved in something so positive.

"We’re looking forward to seeing more examples of the brilliant work that people are doing for their communities in this new round of applications.”

Since the Fund was launched in 2019, 23 community projects have been awarded a total of £237,779.

This has included funding for efficient heating systems and renewable energy generation for community buildings; purchase of electric vehicles to deliver valued community services; and projects which drive innovation, education and behaviour change.

Operations and maintenance manager at Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm, Alexandra Richards said: “It has been exciting to see the Unlock our Future Fund make these local ideas a reality.

"We're looking forward to seeing more inspirational projects to future proof the local area in this next round of funding.

"We want the Unlock our Future Fund to contribute towards a fossil fuel-free future even after the wind farm's operational life is over.

"For this to happen innovative ideas that are fit for the future are needed."

A webinar will be held at 4pm on March 2 for potential applicants to learn about the Fund.
