Schoolchildren have been among the hardest hit during the pandemic.

They have had to face unprecedented disruption and challenges to their learning environment.

Our youngest pupils have not only missed school work but spending time with their friends at such an important time in their development.

Senior students have had to grapple with online teaching and other school work through a computer screen as well as the cancellation of exams.

Moray & Banffshire Heroes 2022 will recognise the extra efforts of our young people with the primary pupil and secondary pupil of the year awards.

The primary and secondary pupils of the year will be youngsters who have achieved something beyond expectations in education, sport or helping others at school.

Sponsoring the award for primary pupil of the year is AD Walker funeral directors.

Jane Mason from AD Walker said: “We’re delighted to support Moray & Banffshire Heroes 2022 and sponsor the award for primary school pupil of the year.

"It has been such a difficult time for schoolchildren, particularly our youngest ones who have to do their lessons at home and have missed seeing their friends at such an important time of their young lives. It must have been a confusing and for some a frightening time.

“It’s amazing how they kept going through the pandemic, supported each other and adapted to all the changes they’ve had to face.

"They really deserve the praise and recognition that a Heroes award brings. We hope everyone will back Moray & Banffshire Heroes 2022 and nominate their heroes.”

Moray College UHI is sponsoring the secondary pupil of the year award.

Jackie Andrews, head of Academic Partnership, Moray College UHI, said: “Moray College UHI is delighted to continue its support of the Moray Heroes awards.

"Our sponsorship of the secondary pupil award demonstrates our commitment to our school/college partnerships and our wider work with Moray schools.

"We would encourage all senior phase pupils to consider wider options to complement their learning and support their transition whether that be further study or employment.”
