Richard Lochhead has voiced his support to the protests against the killing of George Floyd.

.

Moray's MSP says he is speaking out after being contacted by a number of constituents over the issue during the past week.

Mr Lochhead said: "The black community in America is grieving for the loss of too many of their sons and daughters.

"Lives that have been lost due to systemic and centuries old racism that continues to this day.

"No society is immune and we cannot, and should not, pretend that Scotland and the UK doesn’t have work to do to root out racism and address the huge inequalities in our society.

"We all have a responsibility and a duty to educate ourselves, to listen to the black community, and to consider what action we can take as individuals and as a society to tackle racism, and to dismantle racist structures.

"We must stand against racism in all its forms.

"I hope I speak for Moray when I say that we all stand in solidarity with those protesting, across the UK and in the US, for their fundamental rights."
