Vandals have struck once again in a popular Turriff play park.

Friends Of The Den, a community group set up in 2018 with the aim of improving the experience of visitors to Turriff's main play park, were devastated to find that their recently installed play deck has been targeted by vandals.

The playdeck, which the group raised £37,000 to purchase and install, has sustained damage to the sensory water funnel and the peepholes, both of which have been melted.

Sharing the sad news on social media, Friends Of The Den wrote: "Yet again, the vandals have been at work.

This piece of equipment cost us almost £37,000 and took a lot of hard work to get, and yet again, our hard work has been spoiled.

"I’m sure I speak on behalf of all our committee when I say we are absolutely livid at the total disregard for our hard work, trying to improve the play experience for our town's occupants.

"We have a few bits of new equipment on order but after that I’m afraid we are done.

"No more.

"The warm heart feeling we all got from doing this has been wonderful, however, you have spoiled this wonderful experience for us - shame on you.

Anybody with information should contact the police on 101.

The beater from the popular xylophone has also been forcefully removed.

Continuing, Friends Of The Den wrote: "The handle on the recently installed xylophone has been removed too. It was extremely well attached, so this has taken some effort to remove.

"We actually paid a lot more money to buy one with such a secure handle - £1,700 in fact.

"This was played with almost constantly and gave a lovely sound around the whole den, even the tiniest of toots could play it - another piece of sensory equipment ruined."
