TORRENTIAL rain failed to dampen the spirits at the Cullen as the links course brought the local four day open season to a close.

The Scratch trophy was going nowhere thanks to host club golfer Neil Watt, while in Section 1 glory was Jordan Mclean's (Mavertson) to savour.

Section 2 bragging rights were claimed by Spey Bay's Jim Hamilton's.

Completing a wide spread of silverware destinations, Strathlene golfer Martin Douglas tasted victory in the Section 3 final.

While the weather did not always play ball – on the penultimate day of the competition the final three matches had to be abandoned due to flooded greens and were completed first thing the following day – but there were plenty of positives overall for Cullen club captain Davie Sellars to take away from the contest.

He said: "It all went really well despite of the weather.

"I think that was probably some of the worst weather I've ever seen at a Cullen four day open. Still, there's nothing you can do about that and we all got on with it.

"Everyone seemed to enjoyed it nevertheless and the course was in great condition.

"We had around 150 entrants, which is around the same as last year, and there was a good mix of golfers from the local area and further afield.

"The finals were all fairly close and again the standard of golf was high.

"I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors and all those who supported the event, as well as the club committee and volunteers for all their hard work."
