Macduff and Banff poppy displays commemorate 80th anniversary of VE Day
Poppy displays have been put in place to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
Knitted and crocheted poppies have been installed across Macduff and Banff to mark the milestone.
They can be seen in Macduff at the cross and anchor, war memorial and Myrus cemetery. There is a also a display at Banff Parish Church.
Since November 2018, the centenary of the end World War One, thousands of knitted and crocheted poppies have been put in place across from Macduff Parish Church at the cross and anchor, the town’s cemetery and the war memorial for Remembrance Day.
Organisers were keen to install a display to commemorate the VE Day anniversary.
Coordinator Claire Nicholson said: “There will be poppies at the anchor, Myrus cemetery and the war memorial in Macduff.
“The display will mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day and be out until Monday, May 19.
“We will also be doing the same in August to mark VJ Day.”
As well as the traditional red poppies, the display features different coloured flowers.
There is a collection box at the cross and anchor with all the proceeds going to Poppy Scotland.
Over the years, the display has had fantastic support from the community with thousands of poppies knitted and crocheted.
Help has also come from people across the world including America, Canada, Belgium and Australia.
To install the display the organising group is assisted by the local Coastguard team.
Macduff Shipyards also provides a space to put it in to dry out afterwards before it goes back into storage.
