RAF Lossiemouth Typhoons which are currently operating from Leuchars Station have intercepted two Russian aircraft.

.

The Russian aircraft were identified as TU-142 Bear F planes.

The scramble occurred after they entered what's known as the UK Flight Information Region, which extends out into the North Sea.

Russian military planes are viewed as a hazard to civilian aircraft as they do not comply with air traffic regulations.

The Typhoons have temporarily relocated while the intersection of the runways at RAF Lossiemouth is resurfaced.

This is the first scramble since they were deployed to Leuchars.
