North-east Scout groups are set to collect Christmas Tree at the end of the festive season to help with recycling.

A spokesman for the groups involved said: "Buying a real Christmas tree can help Forestry and Land Scotland to develop renewable energy schemes, create and maintain trails and visitor facilities and conserve habitats, wildlife and archaeological treasures.

"But what happens to your tree when the festive season is over.

"We have a collection of Scout Groups with trailers that can help.

"For a small charitable donation our Scouts take on the hassle of disposing of your used tree responsibly when the season is over.

"If you live within any of the following locations or surrounding areas, for a charitable donation of £5 (+98p fee), our Scouts will collect your real tree on either January 8, 9 or 10 and dispose of it responsibly on your behalf.

Areas covered by -

Ellon Scout Group - Ellon, Tipperty, Pitmedden, Foveran, Methlick, Auchnagatt, Ythanbank, Collieston and Tarves.

Kintore Scout Group - Kintore, Dunecht, Kemnay, Inverurie, Kinmuck and Oldmeldrum.

Kinellar Scout Group - Blackburn, Fintray, Newmachar, Kingseat ,Dyce and Westhill.

All you need to do is make sure all decorations have been removed, put your tree outside in your garden or drive before 10am on Wednesday, January 6 and it will be collected before the weekend is out.

This will ensure that it has been kept outside for a minimum of 48 hours prior to collection and help with preventing the spread of Covid.

All donations will go towards fundraising support for local Scout Groups and assist them with running costs during a particularly hard year for fundraising in general.
