Portsoy Folk at the Salmon Bothy sessions support traditional musicians
Folk at the Salmon Bothy continues to support traditional music performers with regular monthly sessions.
The latest club gathering in Portsoy saw a near capacity audience treated to an evening of entertainment, introduced by MC Bill Gray.
Twelve floor performers shared a variety of songs and tunes, including a Doric story from Queen Victoria’s Doric Diary.
Euan MacColl seemed to be favoured by many performers, including one of the club’s special guests, Bob Drummond, who sang a couple of MacColl songs, as well as the much loved Ralph McTell classic, The Streets of London.
Danny Couper was also on very fine form, singing a selection of Aberdeen street songs as well as classic tunes collected from the singing of Jeanie Robertson.
He also gave a great rendition of Hamish Henderson’s Freedom Come All Ye, a song that many think should be Scotland’s national anthem.
The club’s next event is a Christmas extravaganza on Friday, December 20.
Entertainment will include music from local Cullen musicians Chloe and Charlotte Hay, also known as Fair Trickit, who are renowned for their witty songs with ukulele accompaniments.
All welcome to join at the Salmon Bothy in Portsoy. Doors open at 7pm for 7.30pm, bring a bottle and refreshments will also be provided.
A collection of food items will also be made to be donated to local charity.
