Top of the crops for Memsie farmer

While Turriff Show itself may be cancelled for this year, the competition for the best cereal crop still went ahead as planned.

The 2020 Turriff Show Cereal competition which is kindly sponsored by Scotgrain Agriculture was judged by Scott Milne, agronomy manager at BASF.

Top honours went to the overall winner, John Gray ofArdlaw Mains, Memsie with his winter wheat variety Barrel.

Winter wheat: 1 John Gray, Ardlaw Mains, Memsie – Barrel; 2 David Cruickshank, Logie Newton, Huntly – Monroe and 3 Graham Twatt, Easter Cushnie, Gamrie – Lili.

Winter barley: 1 A J Norrie, Woodside of Wrae, Turriff – Kingston: 2 I and N Campbell, Kirkton, Kinellar – Kingston and 3 Dave Green, Craigiewell, Turriff – Kingsbarn.

Spring barley: 1 Brian Pirie, Castle of Auchry, Cuminestown – Laureate: 2 A J Duncan, Muirden Farm, Turriff – Laureate and 3 I and N Campbell, Kirkton, Kinellar – Sassy.
