Moray community council results see just over half of seats filled in recent elections
Nearly half of Moray’s community council seats remain unfilled, it has been revealed.
Results have been published by Moray Council from the recent community council elections, with 13 of the 20 in the region reforming for another four year term.
However, three community councils - Buckie and District, Findochty and District and Finderne - did not make the minimum membership requirements. Of those who did, two - Portknockie and Strathisla - just made the minimum number needed.
Four other community councils, in the shape of Dufftown, Cabrach and District, Glenlivet, Hopeman and Coves and Lennox, had been unestablished prior to the elections.
Out of a total of 208 seats up for grabs, just 111 (53 per cent) have been filled. No seats were contested.
Dates for the inaugural meetings of the established community councils have been set, running through until the end of November.
Community councils are voluntary organisations that act as a voice for their local area. They meet regularly to discuss issues affecting their area, including planning and licensing applications and are consulted regularly by the local authority on a range of matters.
All meetings are public and residents are encouraged to participate their local meeting.
