Ythan Singers have stayed in tune during lockdown.

As lockdown set in the group were forced to cancel and postpone various performances, however it looks like many of those they hoped to be able to move to autumn will be pushed back even further as stringent restrictions on gatherings and events remain in place.

As the weeks have progressed, however, they have been able to utilise video call technology to keep rehearsing as well as enjoying the social aspect of the group, reducing instances of isolation.

Each one hour rehearsal starts with a warm-up led by Musical Director Morag Simpson, and recently the group have been focussing on a new song from Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat as well as an old favourite Faure's Cantique To Jean Racine.

Members also receive the tracks by e-mail or CD so they can keep practicing when Morag is not around.

Telling the Advertiser how the Singers are making the most of lockdown, member Hazel Wilkins said: "Each week a member sings a solo, or plays a recording of a solo now that we have cracked the technology!

"Actually that proved to be very easy now with modern phones and we also play a favourite piece of music of any genre a la Dessert Island Disc.

"To include those who do not join on Zoom we send out a quiz to everyone, thanks to Hilary Gordon who has taken on this task.

"We will get back together as soon as possible, there is considerable research going on around the world to see what will make singing safe again.

"Hopefully it won’t be too long before we will be back entertaining and raising money for worthy causes."
