Farmer Jim MacDonald is reaping his reward with the screening of a new half hour programme on BBC One Scotland.
The Farm – written by and starring Jim Smith, who plays farmer Jim, and Chris Forbes, his sidekick Donnie – follows on from a series of shorts about his rural adventures which have appeared on iPlayer and which began life as sketches for BBC Scotland’s online comedy strand, ‘Short Stuff.’
The comedy was commissioned for BBC One Scotland after positive feedback for the shorts and also for two series of half hour programmes which ran on iPlayer.
This is a wry look at life on the MacDonald Farm where Jim faces a few sticky situations as he tries to keep his agricultural business on track.
It’s not always idyllic as Jim, tractorman Donnie and his mother Mary, struggle against the elements, each other, and outside forces on a farm in deepest Perthshire.
Jim is a proud man; often wounded but never beaten, who cares deeply about what he does.
Mary is extremely hard to please and doesn’t mind delivering home truths.
Donnie is loyal to a fault and always eager to please.
Jim’s neighbouring farm is up for let and he’s excited about the possibilities, but a strident rambler and some birthday blues threaten to derail him.
Written by and starring Jim Smith and Chris Forbes, The Farm will air on Wednesday, February 17 at 10.45 pm on BBC One Scotland.
