Thank you fly-by for NHS staff

A WORLD War II Spitfire soared over hospitals in Aberdeen today as part of a mission to say thank you to those helping in the fight against Covid-19.

The aircraft, emblazoned with the words THANK U NHS, flew over Woodend and New Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in the city as part of a morale-boosting UK tour.

Scores of staff and visitors stepped outside to enjoy the spectacle, waving and applauding as well as capturing their own pictures of the rare sight.

There was also viewing opportunities along the route along the length of the A96 road as the aircraft headed north-west from Aberdeen towards Elgin before overflying Inverness where it landed for a fuel stop.

John Romain of plane owners the Aircraft Restoration Company, said: “The aim of the flight was to lift spirits and also thank the hospitals, communities and individuals at the forefront of getting the country through the pandemic.”

The plane touched down at Inverness Airport for refuelling before heading south to Stirling and a fly over of Glasgow before its overnight stop at Cumbernauld.
