Curator Mike Ward and the staff of Grampian Transport Museum at Alford have responded to the many enquiries from local supporters with an invitation to bring their vintage, classic and special cars and motorcycles to an Autumn ‘Museum Muster’ on Sunday, October 11.

Mike told Grampian Online: “2020 has been a difficult year for everybody in the visitor attraction and events sectors so we were very pleased to gain our nationally recognised ‘Good to Go’ accreditation for visitor CV19 safety and reopen the museum at the beginning of August, but unfortunately we have not been able to run our very popular events programme this year.

"Many of our members and supporters have shared their frustration at having little or no opportunity to bring their prized vehicles and lockdown restorations to the museum and enjoy a get-together with fellow enthusiasts.

2They have also been asking what they can do to support the museum during this shortened season, and that gave us the idea of the Museum Muster.

“It will be a simple drive-in event where we will park vehicles up in our arena at a safe social distance and owners can visit the museum and perhaps enjoy a picnic lunch or visit the Traveller’s Rest tea room.

“Entry to the Muster is through the museum with all the Covid safe measures in place so pre-booking online is essential, at www.gtm.org.uk "Participants will be given an arrival time slot but once here they can stay as long as they like until we close!

Owners will be invited to the arena at the museum.

"Museum members are free, one of the membership benefits, but everybody will be given a very warm welcome whatever the weather.

“This isn’t a spectator event but members of the public will be welcome to come and view the vehicles in the arena as long as they observe all the current social distancing and Covid safety guidelines on the site.”

Full details of museum opening hours, ticket prices and the Museum Muster are available on the Grampian Transport Museum website at www.gtm.org.uk
