EARLY morning concerns over the weather and attendance, evaporated as the sun shone and people flocked to Keith Show for its return on Sunday.

Following a three year break due to the Covid pandemic, organisers of the show were thrilled with the support shown by the public as it roared back in style.

One of the biggest Sunday crowds seen in years basked in glorious weather as the first show since 2019 was held in the town.

Chairwoman Angela McWilliam summed up the reaction of all those involved when she said: "It is absolutely amazing. It has been a tremendous turnout by the public and we are overwhelmed.

"We have not seen this level of crowd at Keith Show for a very long time. Everybody has done so well and the sun has shone which made it even more special.

"We must say a huge thank you to those who have come along and supported the show today.

"After the break from Covid it was a worrying time and a worrying time in starting another show and hoping that financially it would be okay, because what is made today is ploughed into next year's show.

"We hope the public who have come along to day have had a great time and the reports I have had from them is that they have all been very happy.

"All in all, it has been an absolutely stunning day."

Sunday is the main family day at the two day show and with the main horse classes and supreme championship, vintage tractors and cars, industrial tent, crafts, food and drink stalls, massed pipe bands, sheep dog display, zorb fun for children, pet parade, education tent, Highland dancing, trade and charity stalls and showjumping – there was a packed programme of entertainment.

The crowd swelled as the day wore on, and there was a real feelgood atmosphere around the show, as people enjoyed meeting up with people who, in some cases, they perhaps hadn't seen since the last show in 2019.

Apprehension beforehand about how the public would respond to the return of the show after such a lengthy break, and amid a cost-of-living crisis, soon gave way to delight at the fantastic attendance.

It was clear that people wanted to get behind the 148th Keith Show.

The event continues on Monday when the sheep and cattle championships will be decided.
