Exemptions will be made for those who are part of an extended household, couples who do not live together and for informal childcare and tradespeople.

In addition to the rules on visiting other households, pubs and restaurants must close at 10pm as of Friday – with workers encouraged to work at home where possible.

People may still meet outdoors but only with one other household and in a group of no more than six.

Children under the age of 12 are exempt from both the two households and group of six rule, with 12 to 18 year olds exempt from the two households rule – allowing them to meet in groups of six or fewer.

The rules come as the number of infections across Scotland continues to rise.

In Moray, 128 people have tested positive for covid-19 since the outbreak began.

The First Minister is due to appear on the BBC at 8.05pm today to set out the country's current position.
