THE head honchos at Spar made the journey to their Keith branch last week to hand over £1000 to local charity Keiran's Legacy.

Colin Mclean, chief executive, and Brian Straitan, operations manager, came to Moray as part of the supermarket's centenary charity giveaway.

To mark a hundred years in business, the company is giving away £114,000 – that's a £1000 donation to charities in the locality of each of its 114 stores.

Mr Mclean said: "By supporting charities in the communities we serve we hope to strengthen our position as Scotland’s favourite convenience retailer."

Keiran's Legacy was set up by his parents, Sandra and Gordon McKardie, following the teenager's death in a road accident in 2016.

It has since raised enough money to buy 60 defibrillator heart machines, which are sited around Moray as well as in police cars.

A further eight North East charities also benefited to the tune of £1000 apiece from Spar.

They are: Nairn Citizens Advice Bureau; Highland and Islands Blood Bikes; Inverness Sea Cadets; Highlands Hospice; Grampian Cardiac Rehabilitation Association; City of Inverness Youth Pipe Band; Munlochy Hospice; and Archery Highland.
