"Over the last 20 years we've been incredibly lucky to have Richard Lochhead represent us in the Scottish Parliament - he has been a tireless champion for Moray and a dedicated constituency MSP. I hope that I can build on his legacy and the SNP's strong record of delivering for communities in Moray.

"These are incredibly challenging times and people are looking to politicians to offer hope and deliver on their priorities.

“The SNP’s priorities are clear - to grow the economy, to improve our public services, to reduce child poverty, and to tackle the climate emergency.

“As someone born and raised in Moray, I care deeply about our communities and the people who live here. I want to be a strong voice for Moray and a passionate champion for making our region the very best it can be.

“I look forward to getting out there and speaking to people in every corner of the constituency in the year ahead.”

Mr Lochhead added: “I’m delighted that Laura will succeed me as the SNP’s candidate for next year’s Scottish Parliament elections.

“I can’t think of anyone who will work harder to champion Moray in Holyrood.

“She is born and bred in Moray and is a woman of strong principles and values who has a deep understanding of the constituency’s needs and aspirations.

“I’ve known and worked with Laura for many years and she is a person of integrity who if elected will be absolutely committed to representing everyone in Moray.”

Ms Mitchell was was a pupil at Keith Grammar School and went on to study Media and Communications at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh.

She currently works for Richard Lochhead MSP in his constituency office, where she supports constituents and community groups across Moray with a variety of issues.
