Buckie’s McLaren’s Brae to shut as work to repair sinkholes due to get under way





A major Buckie road is set to close for a day to allow major repair work to take place.

McLaren’s Brae - a major through route in the town - is scheduled to close on Monday , March 10 to tackle two sinkholes on the carriageway.

These appeared on August 5 last year when torrential rain hammered Buckie, leading to the appearance of the sinkholes and also surface cracks on the road surface. The road was initially closed while Moray Council assessed the damage and has seen a restricted traffic flow imposed in the months since.

A diversion will be in place during the day via Freuchny Road, Commercial Road, Marine Place, Low Street, North High Street and Cluny Square.

A section of Seafield Street in Buckie, outside Nos 5-6, will shut between March 13-14 for three working days to allow Scottish Water to replace a broken toby.

The firm will also be on Commercial Road in the town, starting over March 13-14, to fix a sunken manhole cover on the westbound carriageway. It is estimated this will take around three working days.

Work is ongoing opposite The Original Factory Shop on East Cathcart Street by Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution to replace a faulty Utility Distribution Box. This should be completed by the first half of next week.

Over in Buckie’s Seatown, outside No 40, Moray Council should have finished footpath repairs by March 10.

The council are also due to begin work between March 10-18 for five working days on Seafield Road to the south of the Community Centre. This is to fix a leak on the main.

Across the road at Judy’s Lane Scottish Water aim to finish repairs to a copper pipe by the end of this week.

Lastly, the company are scheduled to begin urgent waste repairs outside No 8 Duke Street in Portgordon. This could last up to 19 working days
