A section of the road surface has also cracked.

Police were on hand as torrential rain brought further woe to the area with flooding around the junction of McLaren’s Brae and Freuchny Road.

A spokesperson for Moray Council said: “The site [was] assessed this morning by our roads engineers, more information will be known about the problem and the likely timescale for repair and reopening after that.”

It has since been confirmed that the road will remain closed until Monday to allow repairs to be conducted.

Local councillor Sonya Warren: “It’s very concerning indeed to see sinkholes like this develop, especially after the one that appeared at Barhill Road in May.
