The 1st Marnoch Scouts had dreamed of taking over Marnoch Church Hall in Aberchirder since it was listed for sale at a price of £80,000 by the Church of Scotland earlier this year.

But the group’s fundraising activities were called to a halt with the onset of lockdown leading them to finally concede that obtaining it was beyond their means last month.

Their plight however did not go unnoticed by Willie Rennie a former member of the scout group in question.

The chief executive of Aberdeen-based ICR Integrity Ltd, Mr Rennie decided to help out with the finances, leading to a successful bid by the scouts, who were also up against two developers who were also seeking to obtain the property.

The church hall will be used for other groups in the village, as well as being a meeting place for the Scouts.
