ScotRail will refunds on unused tickets following the Scottish Government’s announcement of more travel restrictions over Christmas and New Year.

Normally there is an administration fee to pay for processing refunds.

However, the train operator is waiving the charge.

In order to claim the fee-free refund, customers must keep hold of their ticket and submit it due to the exceptional circumstances within 28 days of its expiry.

Lesley Kane, ScotRail's commercial director, said: "We know people have bought tickets in good faith based on the travel restrictions that were in place.

"Now those have changed, we are making it as easy as possible to get refunds.

"We feel it’s only fair to make any ticket refunds free of charge. Our customers should check our website for up-to-date instructions on how to claim their refund."
