The crew at Ellon Fire Station were joined by some special visitors when they headed out on their annual tour of the streets to raise spirits and money.

Joining the crew was Santa and a few helpers, who took to the streets of Ellon, Tarves, Udny, Balmedie and Pitmedden to spread joy and make sure that there was plenty of Christmas spirit in circulation ahead of the big day.

Usually while touring the streets local firefighters would go around the houses 'shaking buckets' to collect money for a variety of good causes but because of coronavirus restrictions this was not possible this year.

Instead they set up a JustGiving page online and encouraged people to donate if they felt able to instead.

So far they have raised over £1500, with money still trickling in.

Anybody wishing to donate can still do so at: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ellonfirestation

Taking to social media on Christmas eve, an Ellon Fire Station spokesperson wrote: "Santa and his helpers would like to thank all those who donated this year.

"It was a change of circumstances this year using a JustGiving page and not our usual bucket collection but this year was more about raising the Christmas spirit and bringing a smile to people’s faces after such a challenging year for us all."
