A pair of sailing ships which are headed to Antarctica are recruiting crew members for their expedition.

But supporters don't actually have to face the icy conditions in person, instead, the recruitment is all part of fundraising by World Record holders Ollie and Harry Ferguson.

They are working towards their latest challenge in which they intend to send to replica ships to recreate the voyage of the Erebus and the Terror.

As the boys explain; "We will set sail for two years on this epic 20,000 km expedition using the smallest ships to ever sail in the Southern oceans.

"The funds we are raising are to cover the tracking equipment, satellite time and the shipping costs to the Falkland Islands only.

"All boat building costs we will be covering ourselves.

"All funds raised beyond what is required for the equipment and logistics costs will be donated to support the works of the Franklin Interim Advisory Committee (FIAC), who work closely with both Parks Canada and the local Inuit community to protect and conserve the two wreck sites."

They continued: "To help us cover the costs of the tracking and logistics we have come up with a fun way to raise the funds needed.

"Everyone is invited to donate to the cause based on the actual annual salary of the crew in 1840.

"A salary donation will secure you a position on the crew on either Erebus or Terror.

"For “officer” donations you will be assigned an actual named officer and a small wooden figure will be attached with your name onto the boats.

"Or you can simply make a donation to the adventure to help with the boat costs with any excess going directly to the FIAC.

There were 66 crew on HMS Erebus under Captain James Clark Ross and and 62 on HMS Terror under Commander Francis Crozier.

They added: "We would like people to come join us on this epic adventure as we circumnavigate the globe on the finest polar expeditions ships ever built."
