Aberdeenshire North Foodbank in plea for ‘urgent financial support’

Crucial services could be cut back by a food bank that’s in “crisis” unless “urgent financial support” is provided.

Aberdeenshire North Foodbank - which serves communities from Huntly to Peterhead - has issued a stark warning about its future and appealed to the public and local businesses for help.

“We have always believed in a community-led response to crisis,” said Stewart Duncan, Foodbank Operations Manager.

“But right now, we’re the ones in crisis.

“Without urgent financial support, we face the very real prospect of cutting back services that so many people rely on.”

The foodbank’s warning comes amid a ‘critical’ funding shortfall, which the charity said could jeopardise its ability to serve people in crisis.

The foodbank distributed thousands of emergency food parcels in the last year.

A total of 913 of these were distributed in Huntly, with 2831 in Peterhead, 1925 in Fraserburgh, 1503 in Inverurie and 823 in Ellon.

Stewart Duncan added: “These figures are more than numbers — they represent lives affected by crisis, and communities held together by compassion.

“Our volunteers support people by offering not just food, but dignity, hope, and a pathway to stability. But all of that is now at serious risk.”

The Foodbank does not receive guaranteed government funding and relies heavily on voluntary donations.

Rising costs — including fuel, food purchasing, and utilities — combined with sustained high demand, mean immediate financial contributions are now essential to protect ongoing services.
