THE smash-hit musical Mamma Mia is showing in Aberdeen, with a two week to start the shows UK tour.

Through the timeless songs of ABBA, audiences are transported from the north-east to a sunny Greek island paradise on the eve of the wedding of 20 year old Sophie Sheridan (Jena Pandya).

Sophie has never met her father and is desperate to meet him, so that he can walk her down the aisle on her wedding day.

Unable to find the answer in her mother's diaries, she invites her three potential fathers to her wedding on the island, forcing her mother Donna (Sara Poyzer) to confront the men from her distant romantic past and her own daughter's desire to grow up.

The show first began in 1999, with two extremely successful film adaptation's following in 2008 and 2018 and has become a feel-good global phenomenon with some 70 million people around the world having seen the show, yet it still packs theatres wherever it goes and it is easy to see why crowds still flock to see Mamma Mia more than 20 years later.

The show features a grand total of 22 beloved ABBA songs and provides the audience with the perfect blend of laughter and soft tender moments, with the musical number Slipping Through my Fingers a particular highlight.

The tender and loving mother daughter moment provides an emotional core to the story, as Poyzer's Donna reflects on the bitter-sweet memories of watching her daughter grow up while she helps her get ready for her wedding.

The rest of the ensemble cast bring lots of laughter and fun to the show, singing and dancing through classic ABBA numbers with gusto and Donna's best friends Tanya and Rosie, played by Helen Anker and Nicky Swift respectively, are outrageously funny throughout with their attempts to cheer Donna up and seduce the men of the Greek island.

The show also adds three extra songs after the curtain call, giving the audience the chance to get on their feet and sing and dance along to the classic songs.

In a world of bad news, the contagious good vibes of Mamma Mia provide a much needed escape.

Mamma Mia is at His Majesty's Theatre until March 26.

Tickets can be purchased from His Majesty's Theatre's online box office.
