Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a staple in the schedule of His Majesty's Theatre, with the show seemingly visiting the north-east every few years.
With something so regular you feel like you know exactly what to expect, but after two years of watching the world turn on its head it's clear that we never truly know what to expect - and that extends to musical theatre too, apparently.
Fear not, the show is a haze of colour and features all the songs audiences have been loving for decades, including Close Every Door and Any Dream Will Do.
For anybody considering seeing the musical for the first time, it is the Bible story of Joseph, son of Jacob of Canaan, whose brothers cast him out after he brags that God is sending him messages confirming that he is destined for greater things.
Life then becomes a rollercoaster for Joseph and the story follows him through slavery, adultery, jail time, as well as some successes, while his brothers must live with their actions.
The less conventional choices of this production become apparent early in the show, with a downsized children's choir who go on to hold key roles in the story and a narrator who also plays multiple roles.
The young cast give it their all to deliver fun, high energy performances of song, dance and storytelling.
The narrator (played on the night by understudy Rochelle Sherona) doubles as Jacob and Potiphar's wife, and while delivering a fantastic performance in all roles the lack of character definition did lead to confusion for some at times.
Joseph is played by Jac Yarrow, who was outstanding in portraying all the emotions experienced by his character throughout.
Of course, one of the most memorable parts of any Joseph production is the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
An undeniably beautiful piece of costuming, this production's coat bears no surprises and less 'technicolour' than one may expect.
It is a relatively short performance, with both acts running at under an hour.
Despite the production's oddities it was a highly enjoyable show full of life, evidenced as the audience got to its feet to dance along with the final megamix and show their appreciation to the cast.
