9 To 5 is the story of how three unlikely friends – workaholic Violet (Laura Tyrer), country glam Doralee (Georgina Castle) and naïve former housewife Judy (Amber Davies) – are brought together by a bad day in the office, each due in some way to their misogynistic boss Mr Hart (Sean Needham).

A wild series of events finds the women taking over the office after kidnapping their boss while they desperately search for something that will bring him down a peg or two.

The award winning songs boast all of the Dolly Parton charm, and the singers involved in the production are all incredible vocalists in their own rights.

There are also some fabulous dance numbers which help to navigate the storyline and add to the seemingly endless comedy of the evening.

There appeared to be no end of laughs for the audience, both through events in the storyline and through character development, and the simplicity of the storyline and the characters meant that those watching were never left trying to work out how the pieces fitted together.

Although this was set in the 1980's, a lot of the stories themes, especially those around sexism and inequality, have unfortunately stood the test of time, yet at the same time it stands as a reminder for how far the resolution of issues of inequality have come.

Even many of the changes that the ladies make in the office, such as childcare and flexible hours, are still having their benefits discussed in workplaces today.

The idea of being stuck in a job you don't enjoy, however, still hits home for many and it was this relatable nature of the story that often made it so funny.

The audience were engaged with what was happening on the stage the moment the opening notes of the iconic 9 To 5 started playing, and this energy remained throughout with the cast receiving a standing ovation.

The only thing that was missing from this production was an encore megamix of Parton's hits.

This may be one of the only 9 To 5's that sees everyone leave with a smile on their face and a spring in their step at the end.

The show is narrated by Dolly Parton herself through pre-recorded segments on a screen.

The feel-good musical 9 To 5 is in His Majesty's Theatre until Saturday, October 26, and for more information and tickets you can pop into the Aberdeen Performing Arts Box Office in His Majesty's Theatre, visit: www.aberdeenperformingarts.com or call: 01224 641 122.
