MP for the Gordon constituency Richard Thomson has highlighted a campaign by the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) for students studying away from home to register with a local GP Practice.

Being away from home in a different part of the country can be daunting, lonely and overwhelming and it’s important that students register with a new local GP Practice as soon as possible to access help and services should they have a health concern.

Commenting on the campaign, MP Richard Thomson said: “Now, more than ever, it is essential that students’ health and wellbeing is looked after and to access this, students must register with a GP Practice near to where their temporary accommodation is.

“In addition, Universities have accessible wellbeing services, with details on their websites.

"The Student Information Scotland website has the student support pages of every institution to signpost students to the support which is available.”

NHS inform also has lots of information on how to access services.

By being prepared this will avoid delays in accessing the care students need, should they require it.

Please help students get the care and mental health support they might need by spreading the word about registering for a new local GP Practice should they be living away from home.

They can’t access their particular local authority’s support without doing this important step.
