Ellon residents have until Tuesday, September 29 to register to vote in the upcoming Ellon and District by-election.

Voters will have the usual options to cast their vote – in person, by post, or by proxy – but there are only a few days left for those who haven’t yet registered to decide which route to take.

Aberdeenshire Council chief executive and returning officer Jim Savege said: “With the deadline looming for the by-election, it’s important for those wishing to vote to think about how they wish to do so.

“For those unable to vote in person, or who simply don’t wish to visit a polling station, a postal vote is a tried and tested way of participating in the election process, and we’ve already seen strong interest in this method of voting.

“However people choose to vote, I’d encourage those who haven’t yet registered to do so as soon as possible.”

The deadline for registering to vote in the by-election is Tuesday, September 29.

And anybody wishing to submit a postal vote needs to apply by 5pm on Wednesday, September 30.

The Ellon and District by-election will take place on Thursday, October 15.

The count will take place on the morning of Friday, October 16, and information about media arrangements will be shared in due course.
