The Co-op's new soft plastics recycling scheme has seen a good uptake across the north-east and in Ellon the message has been taken to the younger generation as member pioneer Barbara Last explained.

She said: "Last week I visited Auchterellon Nursery to talk to the children about Co-op Food Share (reducing food waste).

"The nursery are one of Co-op Ellon's Food Share partners.

"Every week the children get to choose food items going out of date to share with their families, helping to reduce food waste.

"I also spoke to the children about Co-op's new soft plastic recycling.

"From film lids on fruit punnets, plastic wrappers, bread bags, crisp packets etc. it can all go in our big blue bin to be recycled helping us all to care for our planet.

"That it doesn't matter where their parents shop, they just need to Clean It, Scrunch It, and Co-op It by popping in the blue in the Ellon Co-op and all the boys and girls agreed to help. "
