An entry of 30 top-quality calves suitable for further exhibition is destined for next week’s Thainstone Spectacular show and sale.

The annual event, organised by Aberdeen and Northern Marts and sponsored by leading law firm Blackadders, will take place on Friday, August 20.

John Angus, head of livestock at Aberdeen and Northern Marts, said: “After a long 18 months with no shows, we are really looking forward to welcoming everyone along to the Spectacular next week.

“Buyers will have the chance to pick from a terrific show of well-bred calves from as far north as Orkney and Lockerbie in the south.”

The show will commence at 10am in the Exchange Hall and includes a selection of haltered and unhaltered animals which will be judged by Mr James May, Bromsgrove, Worcester.

Entries include ten calves from Gary Bell, Haas Grove, Lockerbie; six from John and Craig Robertson, Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry; five from James and Balfour Baillie, Sebay, Orkney; and two from Stuart and Wendy Hunter, West Cairnhill, Culsalmond, Insch.

The sale is estimated to take place around 2/2.30pm immediately after the fortnightly sale of store cattle.
