SPEED demon Katie Donaldson has been hand-picked to be a 'Grid Kid' at the upcoming British Grand Prix.

The seven-year-old was chosen for the honour after she made a 30-second video saying why she loves Formula One racing so much.

Katie, who lives in Dufftown and goes to Gordon Primary in Huntly, will now be travelling down to Silverstone for the event on July 14.

She will be among a group of youngsters who will each lead one of the competing drivers out onto the track.

Asked which of the drivers she's hoping to be paired with, Katie said: "Lewis Hamilton because he's the fastest. Lewis is the best."
Katie has reached some pretty impressive speeds herself, topping 40mph in the go-kart bought for her by mum Emma and dad David.

Emma said: "Katie is absolutely crazy about motor racing. Most weekends we're at the track at Banff.

"She's already asked us for a more powerful kart for her next birthday."

The youngster also competes in the 'Bambino' class of the British Championships.

So far this year this has meant travelling to Grantham, Wigan and Cumbria to take part in races.

The next round of the championships will take place in Banbury in August.

Katie was chosen to be a Grid Kid by Motorsport UK whose 'Dare to be Different' campaign aims to encourage more women and girls into the sport.
