Aberdeenshire Provost looks back on 2024
As 2024 draws to a close, Provost of Aberdeenshire Judy Whyte has reflected on the year.
She has looked back on what has been achieved and the key events.
The Provost said: “I‘d like to take a moment to reflect on 2024 and to send you my best wishes for the year ahead.
“It has been a busy year, and I continue to be immensely proud of the community spirit and kindness seen across Aberdeenshire.
“Day in, day out, people are working closely alongside council teams and partner services including our highly regarded local voluntary organisations.
“Through your efforts, you are individually and collectively making a positive difference in the lives of those who need help the most - and I thank you for the contribution you make.
“I have been fortunate to visit some amazing projects this year. A highlight is hearing of some of the most inspirational people in Aberdeenshire through our Inspiring Aberdeenshire Awards.
“This is an opportunity to celebrate true community champions who humbly give their time and enthusiasm to support local causes - 2025 entries are now open so please do nominate people or groups that you know deserve recognition.
“We have commemorated a range of occasions including the honour of granting Freedom of Aberdeenshire to the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
“This was the first time this civic award has been made by Aberdeenshire Council and to have the regiment visit and troops parade through towns in Aberdeenshire with their much-loved pony mascot was a spectacular sight.
“As a council, we were pleased to see people step forward in the community council elections and to support those groups to establish in being a strong representative voice for their local communities.
“We bade farewell to three Aberdeenshire councillors and welcomed new colleagues at a by-election. I offer my thanks to all the council staff who worked to ensure these democratic processes ran smoothly.
“Our dedicated frontline teams have worked resiliently through pressures to deliver essential public services always with a focus on supporting a sustainable economy and help people to live well locally in their connected communities - and I thank everyone for all they do.
“It is a team effort in Aberdeenshire and once again my sincere thanks to everyone who takes pride in making our beautiful area a great place to live, work and visit.
“As we each look ahead to what 2025 may bring, I would like to wish you and your loved ones a happy and safe new year.”
