THE Earl and Countess of Wessex and Forfar visited Moray today for the first time in three years.

Prince Edward, the Queen's son, and his wife Sophie haven't visited the area since 2019 as a result of the pandemic.

However, today they paid a visit to Gordonstoun where the Royal pair presented 125 local school children with commemorative Moray Badges for completing challenges as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Prince Edward addressed the school children afterwards where he congratulated everyone involved including parents and teachers before adding that the pupils should "wear their badges with pride".

The pair then met representatives from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to present the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service to members of Gordonstoun's Fire Service.

Their Royal Highnesses then headed to Elgin to unveil a commemorative plaque for the Queen's Green Canopy in Cooper Park. Children from Seafield Primary were also in attendance to receive Royal Mint Jubilee coins for the Junior Forester Award.

Shortly after, they headed to Moray Food Plus to present another Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of the Elgin charity's work in the local community.

The visit was rounded off with a trip to Fochabers Cricket Club. Both Prince Edward and Sophie presented Fochabers Folk Museum and Heritage Centre volunteers with certificates before unveiling a commemorative stone.

The pair also made time to meet more Moray Badge recipients as well as Duke of Edinburgh award winners before presenting a final Queen's Award for Voluntary Service to the Duke of Edinburgh Award committee.

Stories and pictures on all four visits to follow.
