Moray Council's leader has applauded the majority of local people who have helped keep the area at Level 1.

However Graham Leadbitter has also warned against the rising number of Covid-19 cases locally.

Following the release yesterday of the restriction levels in Scotland, cllr Leadbitter (Elgin South, SNP) said: "It is good news for Moray that we remain in Level 1 in Scotland and that the number of people who can meet outdoors has been increased, which I know will be welcome.

"That being said, we have seen an increase in Moray’s Covid cases in the last couple of weeks and we need everyone to continue to follow the rules to make sure that we stay at a low level.

"Any increase in levels would clearly be a backward step.

"It would impact on people meeting with family and friends, and upon people’s livelihoods.

"I am very grateful to the vast majority of people in Moray who are abiding by the rules and helping us stay in lower level restrictions.

"I would simply urge people to keep it up and help us to improve things further."
