Readers from across the north have been voting in a poll to gauge the appetite for a new scheme to encourage diners to eat out after the pandemic.

Votes were almost evenly split with those readers who believe it is a good way for the government to support local business.

590 people said they would like the scheme to be reintroduced, while 584 said no they didn't want it to come back.

On our social media pages readers told us that the scheme had been good when it was introduced back in August to get people out in restaurants and cafes and to support local business.

The scheme offered up to a £10 discount to every diner for food and soft drinks between Monday and Wednesday each week.

Some readers also told us the scheme was a waste of money and caused paperwork for those who were already stretched in business.

Thank you to everyone who took part.
