Aberdeenshire residents warned of rise in telephone scams





Police are urging people in Aberdeenshire to remain vigilant of criminals making contact by telephone to separate them from their money.

In recent weeks, residents have received calls from criminals pretending to be from the police.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The police or your bank will never ask you to transfer money to a safe account or contact you to ask for your full PIN, password or passcodes. Likewise, they will never ask you to buy gift cards.

“If you receive a request asking for money, follow @TakeFiveStopFraud’s advice and #StopChallengeProtect.

Anyone who believes they have been a victim of a telephone scam can contact Police Scotland on 101.
