Banff Castle Pipe Band fundraising to take part in New York City Tartan Day Parade
A pipe band has organised a fundraising appeal so it can take part in the New York City Tartan Day Parade next year.
Banff Castle Pipe Band has been holding a variety of events to collect funds so it can go on the trip.
It has now made an appeal to any businesses which would be able to support the musicians so they are able to represent the area in the Big Apple parade.
Alana Cook from Banff Castle Pipe Band said: “We have been invited to play at the New York City Tartan Day Parade and are aiming to be there for April 2026.
“Originally some of the pipers were going in April 2020. Everything was booked for them but then Covid hit.
“This time around our Pipe Major Andrew Cook said why don't we get the whole band to go?
“It was decided we will but we are having to find the funds ourselves.
“We have already carried out some fundraising from car boot sales to raffles and we do have more events planned this year but we are far off the amount to go.
“We are looking for any support businesses in the community would be able to offer.
“Any amount a company would like to donate to us will be much appreciated to get our band to New York to take part in such an amazing experience and be able to represent the area.
“We will have a banner with our name on it in front of us during the parade and those that do sponsor or donate to us can also feature on this.”
Anyone who can help out the band can email Kevin Cook at Kevin.cook364@btinternet.com or get in contact through messenger on the group’s Facebook page.
The pipe band is also taking part in Edinburgh's first Tartan Day parade which will take place on Saturday, May 10.
Alana added: “The proposed route for the Tartan Parade will start its journey from the Royal Mile, weaving its way down Cockburn Street, proceeding to Waverley Bridge and culminating at the Mound Precinct.
“We are really excited to be taking part in Edinburgh's first Tartan Day Parade as it will be a great experience.”
