Pictures: Turriff lights its Jubilee beacon

Dozens of locals joined a procession from Victoria Terrace in the town, down through the Millenium arch and into the Haughs on Thursday evening for the lighting of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee beacon.

The parade which was led by members of Turriff Pipe Band headed down to the central ring where the beacon was in place.

They played a selection of pipe music before the official timed elements which included playing of the specially composed jubilee tune, Diu Regnare, Long to Reign ahead of Citizen of the Year, Ian Garden lighting the Beacon at 9.45pm to join up with over 2000 others across the country.

Local councillor Anne Stirling who was amongst those attending said: "I was delighted to see so many people attending the event and would like to thank everyone who was involved in the planning and preparation to mark an incredible 70 years of dedicated public service."
