Buckie in days gone by: Extension work gets under way at Cluny Harbour

Two very different views of Buckie Harbour are on the itinerary as we take our weekly trip into times gone by in the local area..

Buckie in days gone by will look back at pictures of the town - and surrounding areas - and shine a light on some of the biggest events to have happened in our community.

Taken from the archives of the Buckie and District Fishing Heritage Centre Ltd, the pictures show the town and its surrounding areas - in some cases more than 100 years ago.

This week’s photos take a peek at construction work at the harbour plus a view from the port itself to a section of the shore.

The first phase of the harbour in its current form was built in 1877 at a cost of £60,000 by the Cluny family. Extension work, such as that pictured to the north quay, was undertaken in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The iconic lighthouse was built in 1913.

In the second photo, we can get an idea of what Marine Place looked like in days of yore.
