Partnership launches Sensory Bus project for the north-east

A unique initiative for the north-east of Scotland is being launched to support children and young people throughout Grampian with Autism Spectrum Conditions.
Through a partnership project between Grampian Autistic Society and Stagecoach Bluebird, the GAS Sensory Bus will make a huge difference by taking much needed autism specific support to children and young people throughout Grampian.
Billy Alexander, CEO at Grampian Autistic Society (GAS) explained about the project: “This is an innovative project, and one that will transform the lives of so many children and young people with Autistic Spectrum Conditions throughout the north-east of Scotland.
"As a unique, truly mobile and multi-sensory environment, the Sensory Bus will enable us to take our support to children and young people who would otherwise not have this opportunity.”
Stagecoach Bluebird are working in partnership with GAS to make this project happen.
They have donated a double decker bus, driver training and the painting needed to turn a standard commercial bus into an eye-catching sensory sensation.
Managing director of Stagecoach Bluebird, Peter Knight said: “We are delighted to support the Grampian Autistic Society with the Sensory Bus Project.
"I’m really looking forward to seeing the bus transform and the support it will bring to children and young people across the region.”
“There is such excitement at GAS right now”, said Margaret Hodder, Chair of GAS, “We have already secured funding for some of the sensory equipment on the bus and have various funding applications in the pipeline along with a series of events planned to raise money for the project - starting with the virtual Kiltwalk which took place last weekend and which has already raised over £10,000.
“But we have a long way to go and we can’t do this without the support of our local communities throughout Grampian.
"We need as many people and organisations as possible to get behind this amazing project and help us achieve our goal for launching the sensory bus by the end of 2021.”
