THREE schoolgirls from Keith have earned praise at the Scottish Parliament for their fundraising efforts.

Traditional musical trio The Country Quines – Cassie Findlay, Kirstie Lowe and Rachel Lowe – raised £655 in just one day for Friends of Turner Memorial Hospital in Keith and Friends of Jubilee Hospital in Huntly by playing to shoppers outside the Keith branch of Tesco at Hogmanay.

Highlands and Islands Conservative MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston, who submitted the motion commending their efforts, said: "These two hospitals are very dear to the communities they serve and it is inspiring that these three local young people have come together to support them.

"It makes for a heartening start to the year and I was delighted to highlight and commend Cassie’s, Kirstie’s and Rachel’s efforts with a motion in the Scottish Parliament."

Mr Halcro Johnston’s motion on January 8 thanked Cassie, Kirstie and Rachel for their "fantastic efforts for their local communities".

The girls, all from Grange, regularly play for residents of local care homes and for hospital patients. The trio were winners of the Moray Young Citizen Community Group Award in March last year, and in October they helped launch Keith musician Amy Papiransky's Hame Toon album.
